Alarms if not managed properly can result in alarm flooding distracting the attention of plant operators during upset conditions. Incident reports have shown that alarm flooding as one the main reason for major accidents. AlaRm® program helps in alarm classification, risk based rationalization and serves as master alarm database. For process alarms the program provides a sketch with operating window and limits. The tool classifies the alarms so that they can be grouped and treated accordingly. In AlaRM® tool the priority is fixed based on time Vs consequence. Alarm, alert, prompt and status selections possible. AlaRm® assigns test frequencies and shelving times. As the end product, AlaRm® provides overview as well as detailed study report for further engineering.
